Social Inequality in New York City
During my recent visit in NYC, I realized that there is a significant number of homeless people in the streets, which is largely represented by black men.
It seems that many of them do not have/lost life perspective, may not
be skilled to take a dignified job, or may have been systematically left
behind due to societal inequality. Several of them seem to have fallen
into serious physical & mental health problems, and vices. Most
people, including visitors, seem to ignore them/feel contempt. It is not
clear if the city ignores this group of people or if they are too many
that the social system cannot provide support/solution to this problem.
There is a huge cultural & economic divide between the impressive
skyscrapers & wealthy individuals living & visiting the city,
and the evident & numerous number of homeless people in the streets
of NY.
